Small businesses preparing to sell on Amazon need to ensure that all shipments are properly labeled. We’ve put together a handy guide to Amazon’s requirements to ensure you’re making the correct Amazon FBA label print.
What is Amazon FBA lable?
Amazon requires sellers who wish to utilize its Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) program to affix barcode labels containing scannable barcodes on each product they intend to sell through FBA, as these will allow Amazon to accurately track each unit through its fulfillment process.
Before sending their inventory to an Amazon fulfillment center, sellers must attach barcode labels to each unit of product they plan on sending in.
Once at Amazon's fulfillment center, Amazon uses this information from each barcode label to add products into the seller's inventory in their system and when customers place an order for these products they use this barcode information to locate it and ship it.
What Barcodes Does Amazon Require?
Amazon requires two types of labels or barcodes on products sold to them: manufacturer barcode (UPC, EAN, JAN or ISBN) and Amazon barcode (such as FNSKU). Another is Brand Owner Barcodes, it may all be necessary in order to prevent counterfeits of some products. In such cases, an additional Transparency Authenticity Code may also be necessary to help detect such counterfeits.
Amazon requires that all Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) products feature an FNSKU barcode label to track and identify each product during its fulfillment process. Amazon uses this unique barcode label as part of their fulfillment service to track products from start to finish.
If your product already has a UPC, EAN, or ISBN barcode, a barcode conversion tool will allow you to generate its corresponding FNSKU barcode. However, if it does not currently feature one of these barcodes, request a UPC or EAN exemption through Amazon and they will generate one on their end instead.
What to Include on FBA Barcode Labels?
Amazon requires sellers to be meticulous about the content and placement of product labels for FBA listings. Each label should include:
Product name
item condition
related ASIN or FNSKU numbers.
Additionally, sufficient spacing between barcode and related text (0.1″ on top and bottom and 0.25″ on sides).
As is true for placing Amazon barcodes onto product packaging, the same rules apply when it comes to label placement requirements.
Apply the appropriate barcodes on each item, with at least 0.25 inch space between the label's edge and packaging, as well as transparency authentication code labels and serial number barcodes, covering them entirely. Do not place barcodes near corners or curves.

What Equipment Am I Needing to Print Barcode Labels?
Thermal Printer
Amazon strongly advises against printing out low quality or scannable barcodes at 300dpi or greater resolution.
Thermal Labels
To meet Amazon's FNSKU label size requirements and the printer compatibility specifications for thermal labels, thermal labels that can be printed with your thermal printer must meet certain dimensions requirements and be compatible with any thermal printer you may use.
These requirements consist of black lettering printed on white self-adhesive label paper with acceptable dimensions ranging between 1″x2″, up to 2 x 3 inches or larger in dimension – in other words a label size as small as one or three by two inches should also work just fine.

Thermal label printers may bring many advantages when used instead of laser or inkjet printers as business supplies for Amazon businesses.
1.No Ink/Cartridge Replacement Needed
Thermal printers eliminate the hassle and expense associated with ink, toner and cartridge replacement costs – simply ensure your labels are loaded into the machine to print! Over time this could prove hugely cost-cutting.
2. Print Speed
Most thermal label printers are fast! When trying to get a shipment out the door quickly, this speed of your thermal printer will come in handy.
3. Ease of Use
As there are no parts to replace, thermal printers tend to be extremely easy to use. Don't expect lots of buttons or settings on your thermal printer; once drivers are installed and it's set up for the first time, ongoing maintenance costs become minimal.
4. Lifespan
With simplicity comes long lifespan – there are less components that could malfunction, making this printer one of the longest lasting thermal printers ever!
5. Ability to print multiple labels at the same time
Amazon FBA sellers face one major disadvantage. Without a thermal printer, printing FNSKU labels from address labels requires using full sheets of address labels which could wasteful and increase costs over time. If only few items need labeled at once then partial sheets will remain which create waste and increase costs further.
